When introducing meditation to kids (or even jittery grown ups), some of the best ideas are the simplest ones. A fun way to introduce meditation is by stepping into the shoes of your inner iceberg.

Icebergs are enormous chucks of ice that float around the ocean, and just like the ice in a tall glass of water, icebergs float, bob, melt, and crackle…all while standing still.

When you think about it, it sounds as though icebergs are floating around meditating all day long!

So let’s take a few tips from our aquatic neighbors and give Iceberg Meditation a try.

HERE WE GO:

  1. Set a timer for a few minutes (4-8 is a good place to start)

  2. Find a comfortable seat and wrap yourself in a blanket (after all, we’re going to pretend to be icebergs, so it may get a bit cold)

  3. Close your eyes

  4. Imagine a large iceberg

  5. Take a few deep breaths, and with each breath step further and further into the iceberg: become stronger with each breath, larger with each breath, calmer with each breath.

  6. Breathe for a few minutes like the iceberg, and start to notice what you feel.

  7. When the timer goes off, gently open your eyes.

  8. Give yourself a warm hug in your iceberg blanket.
