The Chakras and How They Influenced the Names of My Characters

Did you know that the characters in my Mula and the Fly children’s series were named after the chakras? Chakras (or “wheels of energy”) are points within the body that go from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Our energy system is brimming with intelligence, and sometimes it’s nice to put a name to the energetic qualities we may be feeling...especially when we’re trying to balance our stressful lives. Learning about this energy system is exactly how the characters in Mula and the Fly developed.

Mula was named after Muladhara, the Root Chakra. When it’s out-of-balance, you might feel a little lazy…kind of like Mula in Mula and the Fly. When it’s balanced, you feel perky, zesty, and full of life!

Svadi was named after Svadhisthana or the Sacral Chakra. The chakra of creation! When it’s out-of-balance, you might find it hard to show the world your creativity…kind of like Svadi in Mula and the Snooty Monkey. When it’s balanced, you feel ready to let that creativity flow!

Mani was named after Manipura or the Solar Plexus. When it’s out-of-balance, you might feel a little insecure and unsure of yourself…kind of like Mani in Mula and the Unsure Elephant. When it’s balanced you feel confident, strong, and ready to step into your power!

And here are a few fun facts on the four remaining chakras:

Anahata (the Heart Chakra): the center for compassion, community and love.

Vishuddha (the Throat Chakra): the center for communication.

Ajna (the Third Eye): the center for intuition.

Sahasrara (the Crown Chakra): the center for the connection to divine nature.

There are SO MANY more amazing things to learn about chakras! And knowing that the chakras inspire the characters in my stories…let’s see if you can guess who we might meet next!
